Indigenous Recruitment
Workforce International promotes positive engagement across Indigenous employment via our focused training courses. All training is culturally appropriate and provides for the up-skilling of Indigenous employees with a view to employment placement.
Workforce have recently completed a DEEWR funded IEP course that focused upon Indigenous Recruitment in the Civil Construction, Rail and Traffic management sectors. Sixty five percent of the participants have been permanently employed.
Due to the successful outcomes, DEEWR have requested six further courses to run across New South Wales. Workforce will identify areas of need within specific industries and complete further DEEWR supported training. Our next course has been developed for Transport and Logistics (Warehousing and Storage).
Our specialised training courses ensure that candidates are “job start ready”. Specific industry competencies are taken from the nationally recognised vocations and between one to two weeks training is provided to individuals promoting site awareness and skills.
In addition to our specialised recruitment, we utilise the following initiatives:
- Building working relationships and partnerships with Indigenous organisations and communities
- Creating interest in the communities prior to placing advertisements
- Creation and distribution of flyers promoting Workforce as an Indigenous employer
Our recruitment program includes:
- Organising workshops to promote recruitment and career development opportunities;
- Development and explanation of employer and employee roles and responsibilities;
- Provision of information outlining the application process for casual employment opportunities;
- Promotion of the benefits of casual employment opportunities to Indigenous students in high schools and training organisations.
